Dollhouse Lighting - Creating Ambiance in Your Finished Dollhouse
Nothing makes your dollhouse look more real than the ability to switch on the lights when it's dark in order to create the feeling of a real home.
Dollhouse lighting should ideally be planned before you glue and nail the house together. This way you can hide all the cables behind the wallpaper and in the floor and ceilings.
First decide which lamps or lights to put into which room. Do you want your dollhouse lighting to come from the ceiling only? Or do you also want wall lights and have table lamps and floor lights too? Your house will look much nicer if you have a mixture of lights such as wall lights, floor lights, ceiling lights and table lamps.
The cables for any lights hanging down from the ceiling need to be put in the floor of the room above. This is very important. Cut a narrow groove in the floor above and drill a hole where you want the cable to go through the floor (the ceiling of the room below). Then place the cable from the transformer to where the light has to be attached. Only then put the flooring down. Make sure enough cable hangs down to attach the lamp in the room below. For the wall lights you need to cut the groove in the opposite side of the wall, basically in the wall of the room next to the one you want to put your wall light in. Make sure you cut this groove and place the cable before you decorate this room with dollhouse wallpaper.
The same principle applies for dollhouse lighting using floor lamps and table lamps. It is important to think about all the lights in your house before you glue or nail your house together. Cutting the grooves is easier to do before your dollhouse is assembled than afterwards. It also will enable you to make the finished house look nicer.
