Where Did Your Passion for Dollhouses Begin?

Where did your passion for dollhouses begin? For some, it began as a little girl receiving her first dollhouse as a gift. I was a bit older, about 14, before my dolls house passion began. Growing from an interest in history and 'old things,' dollhouses offered the possibility for recreating imaginative historical scenes. Later, my dolls house offered a creative outlet – there's just something magical, yet challenging, about putting so many details into such a small space.

I can definitely notice the progression from the first dollhouse I built to the most recent roombox, as I've become more comfortable crafting miniatures. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Every artist was first an amateur”. Do you love carpentry, needle point, or painting? Try it in miniature scale! Looking back on my first crocheted dollhouse bedspreads, I can tell they are a little 'clunky,' but with every day I've tried to discover new techniques, honing my skills as a miniaturist, and encourage you to do the same!

What brought you to the dollhouse world? What techniques do you have for making your dollhouses truly your own masterpiece?
