Redecorating your Dollhouse
Every once in a while, I get the itch. You know, the "I want to change something so badly it hurts, even though I don't know what I want to change" itch. I'm convinced most women and some men get that urgent feeling. I know I do!
A couple hundred dollars for a few buckets of paint, a couple new pictures, and maybe a silk plant, and things are good again. I like change. But I am just a college student, a single mom, and only part-time employed. Long gone are the days I could buy a new couch on somewhat of a whim.
Of course, that's not true for my dollhouse. A few dollars for new paint and miniature accessories and I get a whole new, fresh look.
I have my favorite dollhouse, the Wedgewood-blue, three-story Victorian dollhouse I got myself for a promotion present nearly ten years ago, prominantly displayed in my small formal living room. The living room itself is very plain and stark, making the large blue wooden dollhouse a highlight. My throw pillows and knick-knacks even match the dollhouse exterior! That's my pop of color in the otherwise white, cream, and gray room. So whenever I remodel a room in the dollhouse, the whole living room takes on a new feel. It's a pretty cost-effective way to make a large impact in a small space.
How do you showcase your dollhouse? Is it a feature in a room? Is it tucked away for quiet times when you can enjoy it safely from the reach of small hands? Do you have a room full of dollhouses? (That would be awesome! One day...) When you redecorate your dollhouse, does it impact your whole room?
Have you ever tried using a dollhouse as a permanent feature in a room like your dining room or office? Especially in a room with antique furnishings, a dollhouse can play a prominent role, and making small changes inside the dollhouse can make the whole room feel new again at a fraction the cost. Tell us how you showcase your dollhouse. We'd love to hear from you.
