Cleaning Doll Houses with Furniture
Have you ever taken a close look inside one of your doll houses with furniture after it's been on display for a while? When I did, I noticed that it was very dusty! Not just a layer of dust settled on the shingles and the front porch, but all the way inside each room.
How do you clean a dusty dollhouse coffee table or bathroom sink without having to take each one out of the house? The tiny proportions of doll house furniture are part of what make them so fun to collect, of course, but it can also make them very difficult to clean. Here's the best method that I've found for cleaning doll houses with furniture:Use compressed air canisters like those used to clean a computer keyboard. This is an easy way to get most of the dust out without disturbing your dollhouse miniatures. Just blow carefully to avoid knocking over everything in the house.
Use a clean makeup brush to dust furniture and other small items. A soft, lint-free cloth, like a lens cleaning cloth, can be used on larger pieces.
There are also a few ways to protect doll houses with furniture to make cleaning easier:
Hold small pieces in place with soft wax. Use it under chess pieces, candlesticks, and other tiny accessories to keep these in place when dusting, moving the house, or displaying your collection.
Cover the open side of the house with Plexiglas. This allows you to enjoy your collection while keeping the pieces from being disturbed or getting dusty.
